How to make
- PLANT MARKERS- labels
- this
article under construction - please check back as it develops.
- We
have found in our own herb garden that "permanent"
markers fade quickly when used in the sun on a plant marker.
This method of embossing is much better and will last very long.
-
- Aluminum
will stay the same longest. Brass and copper will slowly gain
a natural patina by first turning brown and over time possibly
blue or green.
-
- 1. Cut a
strip of 30 gauge sheet metal of your choice. Here we used an
3 inch wide strip by 6 inches long in aluminum 30 gauge but brass
and copper in 30 gauge can be used too. (Thicker or thinner metal
will not work as well for this project.)
-
- 2. Fold the
metal to the back in thirds leaving 1/3 in front.
-
- 3. Cut a
blunt point on one end to stick in the ground.
-
- 4. Next with
a pointy tooling metal stylus, emboss the name of the plant.
You can also use a pointy pen cap.
-
- It is done.
(We will have photos soon)
-
-
- Or to hold
it above ground with a horizontal marker.
-
- 1. Cut a
strip of 30 gauge sheet metal of your choice. Here we used an
3 inch wide strip by 4 inches long in aluminum 30 gauge
-
- 2. Mark the
metal for thirds the long way 4 inches. Punch the metal with
a small hole above and below line two inches from the end.
-
- 3. Fold the
metal to the back loosely in thirds leaving 1/3 in front and
the holes on the back.
-
- 4.Slide a
stiff 8 or 6 gauge metal wire through the back and crimping it
by rolling a rolling pin over it with the back up until the wire
does not rattle. Or you can glue it in place so as not to ripple
the front.
-
- 5. Next with
a pointy tooling metal stylus, emboss the name of the plant.
You can also use a pointy pen cap.
-
- It is done.
